COMMUNITY SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AT SMK NEGERI 1 SEMARANG

Mathematics lessons that tend to be abstract and less interesting make students less enthusiastic and tend to get bored quickly to follow this lesson. This is a challenge for teachers to be able to deliver the material as interesting as possible for their students. Not only that, content or learning materials that make it easy and not boring for students are the main challenges faced by educators. Proper teaching aids are needed to facilitate students ‘ understanding, especially for geometry material, either plane geometry or space geometry.
Departing from this situation, the S1 Mathematics Study Program, Department of mathematics, faculty of Science and Mathematics UNDIP as the ‘host’ held a community service program “Interactive and fun Flat Field Transformation Learning” for students and teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Semarang. The core event of a series of activities scheduled, was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, and was opened by the Deputy Head of Public Relations of SMK Negeri 1 Semarang representing school principals who were in foreign service. Chairman of community service on this occasion, Dr. Kartono, M.Si revealed that this service activity was carried out offline with strict health protocols in the new normal adaptation period and was followed by 35 students and 4 mathematics subject teachers.

In this community service, lecturers are assisted by a number of students to provide training related to the implementation of teaching aids flat field transformation learning interesting and interactive. Overall, this activity was carried out in the period January – June 2022, through several stages. The first stage is the preparation and consultation with the partner, the second second stage by conducting training on flat plane transformation theory and simulation of props, the third stage is the students practice simulation of props, and continued with mentoring the completion of individual tasks. The effectiveness of props can be seen from the results of the postest value is higher than the pretest value. The trainees are satisfied and happy with the use of props in this learning and want the next training with a variety of props and the creation of motive design.
