DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS, UNIVERSITY OF DIONEGORO IN INDOMS SERVE THE COUNTRY

Two lecturers of the Mathematics Department of Diponegoro University FSM, namely Dr. Nikken Prima Puspita, S.Si., M.Sc. and Dr. Lucia Ratnasari, S.Si., M.Sc. involved in the activities of the Indonesian Mathematical Society (IndoMS), which is an organization or association that is a forum for mathematicians, educators, users, and math enthusiasts. The activity, entitled INDOMS Serving the Nation, involved several universities in Indonesia, including Diponegoro University.
One of the activities of INDOMS to serve the country is by collaborating with the Forestry Service (Dishut) of Lampung Province. This activity was carried out for two days, namely Thursday and Friday, August 4 and 5, 2022, with the event on the first day in the form of a festival entitled “Lampung Forest Tourism Festival 2022” centered at the Wan Abdul Rahman People’s Forest Park and opened by the Governor of Lampung Province, Ir. Arinal Junaidi and the event on the second day were a program of activities from IndoMS.
The second day’s activity was carried out by holding a seminar on productive forest harvesting models. The participants of this seminar are field extension workers in productive forests. The topic presented is modeled by classifying trees in one area into classes based on their height. Then by using the growth matrix multiplication operation, the tree vector is planted and the harvest vector. Based on the references, a model is formulated to calculate the optimal profit, but still pay attention to forest sustainability. This formula is an application of Elementary Linear Algebra by dividing the data into vectors of real numbers, namely harvested and non-harvested vectors and a Growth Rate matrix. Profit is calculated based on these three components multiplied by the selling price of the harvest. In order to maintain sustainable forest conservation, in the illustration/simulation model provided by (Anton, H. And Rorres., C, 2000) it is found that the optimal result is the highest profit and the number of trees that can be harvested at each level.
In this activity, the results of discussions with seminar participants are expected to be input, so that this forest management model can be modified for other types of productive forests. For example, to regulate the optimal planting cycle of Lampung coffee or siger avocado which is currently being cultivated by the Lampung Provincial Forestry Service.
